The TikTok character limit depends on the field: 4,000 for a caption, 150 for a comment, 80 for a bio and 24 for a username. Last checked October 2026.

Video description limit on TikTok

The video description limit on TikTok is 4,000 characters in the app, up from 2,200. Captions posted through scheduling tools and TikTok’s posting API are still capped at 2,200, so keep scheduled captions under that.

Hashtags and @mentions count toward the limit. Only the first line or two shows on the video before “more”, so lead with the hook.

TikTok doesn’t set a separate hashtag limit; hashtags simply use caption characters. Three to five relevant hashtags are usually enough.

How to exceed the character limit on TikTok comments

You can’t post a longer comment, but you can continue the thought: post the first part, then reply to your own comment with the rest, numbering them 1/2 and 2/2. For anything longer, answer with a video reply instead.

TikTok bio, username and profile name limits

  • Bio: 80 characters. Spaces and emoji count.
  • Username: up to 24 characters, using letters, numbers, periods and underscores. It can’t end with a period.
  • Profile name: up to 30 characters, with spaces and emoji allowed. You can change it without losing followers.
