WordCharacterCounter.com is a free set of word and character counters for writers, students and marketers.
What we do
We build simple tools that answer one question well: how long is this text, and does it fit? The main word and character counter counts words, characters, sentences and reading time as you type. Alongside it are counters for every major social platform, language-aware counters for Chinese, Japanese and Hindi, document tools for PDFs and images, and writing calculators.
How we build our tools
- Private by design. Every tool runs in your browser. The text, PDFs and images you use are never uploaded to our server.
- Accurate counting. Characters are counted the way people read them, so an emoji with a skin tone counts once and a Hindi conjunct counts as one character. Where a platform counts differently, such as X, we follow its own rules.
- Checked limits. Platform character limits change. We check them against official help pages and current references, and each tool page says when it was last checked.
- Methods in the open. Every estimate shows its formula and where its numbers come from, from reading speed to words per page.
